Melanie Coles is a young media artist + designer living and practicing in Vancouver, Canada. She has been featured in many exhibits including the solo exhibit “All The Small Things” at The Petri Dish Gallery, January - February, 2007.

She is currently completing a Bachelor of Media Arts at the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design

Friday Aptil 4, 2008 || Waldo is Up!

Waldo is all completed and waiting atop his rooftop for Google Earth! I will be exhibiting photo documentation aswell as aerial photographs at the Emily Carr Institute Graduation Exhibition 08 which opens on May 3. I had a helicopter take images of him! View my project website.

I will also be exhibiting part of triangle series at the Helen Pitt Gallery in May.

Wednesday March 5, 2008 || Working on Waldo!

My giant Waldo painting is almost half way done! He will be 54 feet tall! He should be ready for his rooftop installation within a few weeks which is exciting! I made a blog to document this project at where on earth is waldo . com and the project will be exhibited at the Emily Carr Institute Graduation Exhibit in early May.

Sunday February 24, 2008 || Hockey dad Records web site launch!

Another February web lauch! Hockey Dad Records' first ever web site went live on Friday! I made it with Ryan Dyck who puts out primarily Vancouver punk 7"s and is currently working on records from defektors and b-lines. Visit the brand new site and buy some records!

I have added two more images from my triangle series. I have chosen "John Denver" from this series to be my selected image for the ECI Grad 08 Catalogue. Below is "Jack Rabbit" which I made last week, and visit my Mixed Media page for 'Catching Triangles'.

Emiliano and I have been furthering our preparation for the art zine show we are curating at the Charles H. Scott Gallery bookstore. We spent an entire day roaming Vancouver looking at thousands of zines (including three hours in the lowercase reading room!). We meet two lovely librarians who are working on setting up a zine collection at the Vancouver Public Library! This exciting collection is expected to become public this summer which is great news for Vancouver zinesters!

Sunday February 10, 2008 || Zulu 1.0 Launch!

Last Saturday my new Zulu Records site went live! I am still working out a few bugs but I am pretty happy with it! I couldn't have done it without the help of Jordie Yow who helped me to learn PHP.

Thursday January 10, 2008 || Lots of Vinyl but No Records

Happy New Year! Good Tidings!

Waldo Forges Ahead: Where on Earth Is Waldo, my gigantic Waldo painting that will be visable from google earth, currently exists as 8 rolls of vinyl in a studio downtown. This is 160 square meters of soon to be Waldo. I am hoping to start formal construction on him this weekend and am hoping to get him on a rooftop by March 1. He is going to be big! The photo documentation of the project shold prove to be very interesting!

In non-Waldo news my good friend Emiliano Sepulveda has asked me to help curate a zine exhibit at Emily Carr this Spring ! This will be my first official return to zine world since my abandonment for the interweb in 2006.

Also I have a Flickr account where I have been posting some of my photography.
